Age Discrimination Compensation

The following was reported in the News and Star, a Carlisle newspaper, on 12th February 2007

Ronald Davidson , a former bar manager has been awarded almost £15,000 compensation for unfair dismissal a nd age discrimination .

The Carlisle Employment Tribunal ruled that the bar manager was unlawfully sacked three weeks after his 60th birthday.

Mr. Davidson had worked for the Globe Tavern in the town of Longtown, Cumbria, for over six years, but was then subjected to a series of humiliations, being made to do menial tasks and not given the free uniforms which were handed out to younger staff.   He was summarily dismissed in June 2007.

The tribunal awarded him £14,695, including £5,583 for loss of earnings and £5,000 for injury to feelings, according to local paper the News and Star.

Drew Brown, licensee of the bar at the time of the dismissal, did not attend the hearing. The bar is now under new management.
