£1.5 million Flower Could Kill a Business

at Waterloo station in 2003.
A judge has ruled in his favour, and  compensation is expected be in excess of £1.5 million.
It was alleged that the accident was caused by a single yellow petal lying on the ground next to the flower shop run by Mrs. Bella Patel.
Mrs. Patel said there was no evidence that a petal caused the fall, but the judge said that the staff should have had a cleaning routine and that Chiltern Flowers owed Mr. Piccolo a duty of care.
The Health & Safety At Work Act requires employers to carry out a risk assessment and put in place control measures to "ensure the safety of others".
Mrs. Patel said that her insurance cover would only pay a maximum of £800,000 and that if Mr. Piccolo was awarded £1.5 million then she would be bankrupt.
