Bullying, Harassment

A victim of workplace bullying and harassment has received a payout of nearly £800,000 after an Employment Tribunal ruled against his employer.

Former News of the World sports reporter Matt Driscoll, who was fired by News International in April 2007, was awarded £792,736 by the East London Employment Tribunal. He has not had a full-time job since his dismissal.

The tribunal found in December last year that Driscoll, who was on long-term sick leave for stress-related depression when he was sacked, had been the victim of a consistent pattern of bullying behaviour.

Former News of The World editor, Andy Coulson (now Conservative leader David Cameron’s head of communications), was the original source of the hostile approach to Driscoll, but other senior managers followed suit the tribunal said.
