Any computer workstation used for the purposes of the employer's business must meet the minimum requirements detailed in the Schedule to the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992.
Users The employer must determine who is a “user” under the Regulations.
Risk Assessment A risk assessment must be carried out in respect of each work-station and the findings brought to the attention of the employees affected. Users should be made aware of the risks and necessary control measures. The assessment must be reviewed as necessary, and the risks eliminated or reduced to the lowest reasonably practicable level.
Work breaks Regular breaks from display screen work should be taken - the guidance suggests a 5-10 minute break every hour of such work.
Eyesight tests Free eyesight tests must be provided for users if requested or where the user has any difficulty in viewing work on the screen. Tests should be repeated at two-yearly intervals or as recommended by an optician. The cost of the prescription and basic frames must be borne by the employer.
